OUR LEGAL AID CLINIC PROJECT

THE LGBTQ+ LEGAL AID CLINIC is an extension of our physical legal aid clinic started in 2020 to offer legal aid services to the LGBTQ+ community. This was a consolidation of volunteer efforts which have been providing expert legal aid to the LGBTQ+ community since 2007.

Our online clinic connects volunteer advocates in Kenya with LGBTQ+ community members in need of legal services remotely through technology and the internet.  An advocate and a client are able to consult from any location with an Internet or phone connection. In some cases, where suitable, a client may be referred to a convenient local site to get legal aid.  Our services are free. This service allows LGBTQ+ community members to access justice conveniently while tapping into technology and volunteer legal expertise. Our volunteer advocates have been trained and are therefore sensitive to LGBTQ+ issues.

HOW TO ACCESS OUR CLINIC

To access our clinic, click to fill and submit a Legal Clinic Form provided here. Within a period of 72 hours, an advocate will get in touch with you to discuss your case further or you will be booked to our online clinic and advised or referred to a site near you for physical consultation.

USER AGREEMENT

  1. By accessing our service, you confirm that you are 18 years or over.
  2. The advice we provide is one-off advice only. The volunteer lawyer will not, unless otherwise informed or agreed, be acting or representing you, will not file any documents on your behalf, contact third parties for you or get into protracted correspondence with you or third parties.
  3. We will typically provide you with a short one-off piece of legal advice and a written summary of the advice given along with recommendations for any next steps you should take.
  4. We will only provide advice to individuals on personal matters, such criminal, family, employment, blackmail, assault, discrimination etc relating to one’s sexual and gender identity or expression (SOGIE).

5. We will not provide advice to businesses or in respect of business dealings unless the advice sought is on an issue that arises out of ones SOGIE.

6. We will not provide financial advice, which includes investment advice, sale or purchase of property or other assets unless the advice sought is on an issue that relates to ones SOGIE.

7. Since we rely on a team of volunteer lawyers we aim to respond within 72 hours but may occasionally be longer depending on how busy the service is.

8. Where we are unable to deal with your question or offer help, we will let you now.
